Peco Peco : a shower of small japanese dishes

03/04/2018

As soon as you enter the small restaurant you come across japanese cooks busy preparing small and high quality plates. We are four, the waiter suggests to order 2-3 small dishes per person.

Kushiage de fromage (fried goat cheese skewers) : for french people goat cheese is not someting very special. However for those who are not familiar it is worth the taste.

Gyoza (fried japanese meat dumpling) : a classical japanese dish that never goes wrong.

Salade de soba (japanese noodle salad) : noodles with salad and seaweed, delicately seasoned with soy sauce. Fresh and very light in taste, simple and filling.

Takosu (octopus marinated in vinegar sauce) : the octopus is very fresh and chewy, marinated in a vinegar and lemon that freshens the dish. Comes with endives.

Ebi Fried (Shrimp Tempura) : a classical japanese dish, the shrimps are big and juicy and the dough is crispy. Served with red marinated cabbage.

Sardines (marinated sardines) :  they are slightly dry but have nice soy sauce flavor. Nice to see this uncommon fish on the menu.

Maquereau (marinated mackerel) : same soy sauce but different taste, the fish is tender and you can still feel the mackerel's taste. Served with red marinated cabbage.

Buta Kakuni (boilled and marinated pork belly) : the meat is marinated and has a powerful sweet and salty taste. It melts in the mouth, the texture of the boiled fat is very smooth but can be disliked by some.

Nitamago (half-boiled sake marinated egg) : similar to the egg in ramen soups but with a twist. The sake is lightly felt, the egg is smooth and very tasty.

In the end everything is good, however I felt like the sides ar always the same (cabbage and salad). Also, 2-3 small dishes can still feel a little light. But it is the concept of the restaurant as you don't come for its quantity but rather for the quality of the small plates. I strongly recommend to come early as the place fills up quite quickly.
